Hoover HISTORY

The Hoover neighborhood from 21st Street south to 31st Street, from Yale Avenue east to Sheridan Road, was farm and mining land in the early days of our city. Strip (coal) mines dotted the landscape and cattle roamed its gently rolling hills. The site near 21st and Darlington was considered as a potential building spot for a major medical center. A golf course (with a pond) blanketed the land now occupied by the Target, Sears and Reasor's retail center.
